Is Dublin CHP set up differently? I drove through today to Walnut Creek from Stockton. Switched over to Dublin hitting the Alameda County line on 580. The entire trip in I only got dispatch on the base. On the way out I got roughly 2-3 units that came up along with dispatch. What am I missing there or what do they not have turned on?

The Khaki is usually fairly active and the 580 corridor you drove is an area of good reception. I usually hear the units being repeated, but I understand that the dispatcher can disable that feature. Are you sure you were tuned to 44.94 and not the Aqua, 42.62 which they simulcast on?

My dublin is programmed in as
44.94000 WNUH520 B 114.8 PL KHA2 GAT B Base - KHAKI 2 - Dublin (118)
42.78000 KA4993 M 114.8 PL KHA2 GAT M Mobile - KHAKI 2 - Dublin (118)

Around Alamo I switched to Contra Costa on
42.92000 WNVK354 B 131.8 PL MRN GAT B Base - MAROON - Contra Costa (19)
42.74000 KA4993 M 131.8 PL MRN GAT M Mobile - MAROON - Contra Costa (19)

Isn't Hayward and Castro Valley used for west of 680?

Here's another aside question, why is it that Golden Gate utilizes the VRS and extender freqs? Out here in the Valley (Stockton, Merced, etc) I think I've heard the VRS system once when it was first being activated.

Also, heard Contra Dispatch on their extender primary, sounded like they were giving bolos, do those go directly to all units but not over the base channel? Seemed to be used just for informational purposes only.

Before the Khaki was used, all of southern Alameda County was on the Aqua (42.62) and if you were using old data, you may have been listening to it. Since they simulcast, you'd hear dispatch talking to the Dublin units, but not hear the units being repeated. Looks like you had the right freq in, so the repeat function was probably turned off.

The repeater not being on probably played a huge role. I do have similar results when going up to Sacramento on the BLACK, I'll get the dispatch side but seldom if any of the unit(s). I suppose I should feel rather fortunate that I am able to get all of Stockton's Stockon/Tracy units transmissions 99% of the time. Amador and Calaveras are usually either just the units side or just the dispatch side. Also depends on which tower they are transmitting off of.

I always scan both base and mobile frequencies (and use the correct type of antenna) so as to hear both sides of the conversation. Not only does it vary by dispatch center, but you never know when 'repeat' is going to be off.
