Shelbyville 444.050 is now off the air due to duke energy being anti-ham they took Will's repeater off the air the 1st. He could of left it but would have had to paid 600/mo
sad thing is KYEOC used it for emergency communications so keep Will in though and prayer as to help in steps on what to do next

Madisonville in Hopkins County, Ky just recently received a grant from Homeland Security to upgrade their EOC. I don't know how the process works to receive funds, but I would start with contacting your local Senator or Congressman.

While the loss of that repeater is regretable, based on the information you posted, I think Duke is more "anti-giving away tower space" than anti-ham- a situation all too often caused by someone else offering $$$ for the space. They did offer to let the repeater remain for a monthy fee, which is more than what had to be done. A truly anti-ham company would have just said "take it down, that space is no longer available to you". The days of free tower space for amateur repeaters are numbered now that nearly everyone with a substantial tower knows that space on same = $$$ from a cell company or similar operation..

$600/mo must be the going rate, Murry was told to remove the W4SJH Springfield repeater a few years ago, unless he wanted to pay the fee
W4SJH is still off the air

I don't see a reason to delete this thread..If you no longer wish to talk about it, then don't post to it :)

there is a possibility that it could be back. will has a friend that lives in shelbyville that has a farm, he has stated that the repeater could be set up there. the problem is a tower is needed. i have found one in lawrenceburg, and there has been one found for the project north of somerset. we havent gotten around to checking them out yet, with everyone schedule and the holidays on us. the other problem is we have to find enough time so we can go up there find the best spot, and have a hole dug. get the tower set and concrete put in it. the weather will play a big role in this too. we have a group of people that have tentively stated they would help in any way possible, i being one of them. i havent talked to will in a while, havent even heard him on the repeater lately. 444.050 tone 100hz in williamsburg. anyway keep your fingers crossed, and if someone finds a self supporting tower around 75-150 feet tall cheap please let us know. also... please dont get discouraged shawn, hang in there man. there is alot of truth in money thing. it is becoming much more apparent, that money is more important than good to the community. it is sad but i said it all along, that was the whole reason for the removal. tower space is worth money with all the communications for other things that bring money in.
i had someone here try to rent some tower space at 100 ft. to me at 500 a month. the bad thing is i know him very well. the tower has stood there and not been used at all for 10 years now. anyway thats life.
thanks guys

update, i have talked to will today. he said a 60-70 footer would work. i may have located a 48 foot self supporting rohn bx tower for sale. i told him i would buy it and donate it to the cause. it just needs painted. if someone has a couple sections to make this taller it would be very helpful. the tower must be self supporting, that is a stipulation of the land owner. he dont want guy wires. anyway the tower i have found is bx style. you see some of these as tv towers. i need a couple more sections bx-7 and bx-8. the numbers are stamped inside the legs or on the x bracing. let me know if you got a section laying around.
thanks
troy
