Just watching the license grants...seen the one for Terre Haute, but I haven't started listening to see if a CC is out yet or not... I go right past there main office every night in Terre Haute... They have two very nice towers on the property so I might stop and see what I hear one night soon! I vote for no ENC also! :)

Here is a map that I _try_ to keep up to date (within a month). I have not looked at new license applications in the past 30 days. But I did update the map based upon pending apps that have been granted in the past 30 days.

No promises, but I'll try to keep this as up to date as possible. Not all sites have their frequencies listed or callsigns linked to the RRDB yet. I am trying to maintain too many wide area power maps to keep up :) But I'll get there.

For now this should give you an idea of FCC licensed locations of Duke trunked sites.

DUKE ENERGY - Google My Maps. The non-blue balloons indicate either pending licenses for new sites, or pending licenses on existing sites (adding/changing frequencies).

Is it possible to merge/transfer the multiple posts about this system into the Multi-State section? I have a thread already going in that section and I have also seen a thread in the Florida section as well.

Being that this will be a wide-area system it seems it would best belong in the Multi-State section.

Wouldn't be shocked if they use the big E on most channels. That's all I get on the DMR systems. Also, I second the vote to move this to Multi-State.

Here is my list of FCC applications that have the P25 Phase II emission designators on them. From what information I have received it appears the equipment may already be installed at several of the sites so it may not be too long before the granted sites go online at least for testing.

I'm gonna take a guess here and say that Duke Energy will be using the same dealer they used when deploying their OpenSky system. Their current dealer is also the ones who have been building out the AEP P25 System.

I would say this system will be similar or even bigger in size.

Duke Energy has been granted 2 separate licenses for 3 Northern Kentucky Counties. Seems that there will be 2 800Mhz sites in Boone County, 1 In Kenton, and 1 in Campbell. Not sure if Grant County was granted the modification.

They currently have two original applications that are still pending, 0009079961 and 0009150857.

They have filed several modifications in the past few days to change the 861.xxxx frequencies.

Sounds Good. Wonder if they will dump the DMR System used in Boone for this new system once online and completed.

My guess would be no. That's a very active system and I would think they would put a P25 site on the property if they were planning to do that. But you never know, it's possible they did a site survey and found that they would have adequate coverage from the other sites.

Don't forget about the constant rate increases

Why should those rich fat cats and hedge funds forego their dividends when the honest, hard working ratepayers can be made to foot the bill through additional charges and fees? Reinvest profits into the business? Bite your tongue!!

But on the actual topic, I've seen recent reports that there may be Duke P25 activity in the Cincinnati area; I'll have to dig around and find that info.

It certainly wouldn't be hard for somebody (in any Duke area) to determine if P25 was in use. A quick scan of the appropriate band is all it takes, with a P25-capable scanner or some SDR software and UT / DSDPlus. Not sure why people don't use the search function on their scanners. It would take less than five minutes to use a scanner to scan any given band and determine if there any new (not published) p25 sites around a person.

You're preaching to the choir, brother. . . .

However, I did check the reports about activity in the Cincinnati area, and it turns out to have been new data transmissions on Duke 800 MHz frequencies (unknown format). This is from the MONIX list:

855.6875 - Erlanger Gas Plant, strong signal from St. Elizabeth Edgewood.
859.0625 - Brecon, strong signal from Bethesda North Hospital.
858.4125 - Dicks Creek Station
859.3125 - Valleyview Office
857.5875 - Dunlap

If they're putting up new data stuff (I suspect SCADA of some sort) it could indicate that they're moving it from the old system to something new in preparation for the new P25 system.

I really need to join the MONIX list. I guess I didn't realize there was that much activity discussed on there that isn't discussed here, but clearly there is. I'm going to research how to join. Not sure if I'll be allowed to join though since I'd be an interloper. I'd just have to keep my mouth shut and only read :)

It was me who posted the info on MONIX (please join, we have lots of local stuff posted on MONIX that isn't on RR), I've been a bit busy since returning from vacation so I didn't get a chance to post here.

I am thinking the sound I am hearing is possibly SCADA or a P25 test pattern, it has a familiar sound but I just can't place it for sure. I have done some searching online for audio clips for data sounds and so far non of what I have found are a match but the 800MHz P25 test pattern is close, this would also seem to make since being that this is a Harris system. If someone can point me to a SCADA audio clip that would be great. If I get a chance I will record what I am hearing and try to post it here.

Unfortunately I am unable to receive any of the signals from my home so I will need to go out mobile this weekend and use my laptop to try to analyze the signal and see what I get.

In addition to the data signal I am also getting analog kerchunks on several frequencies every 30 seconds or so.

I've signed up for MONIX. I can tell you that many times during the AEP P25 system turnup in Ohio (also a Harris system), there were many times when a P25 test signal was up. Obviously it wasn't something one could decode, but it sounded very much like a test pattern. And I think that the same company that is deploying the AEP stuff for AEP may be doing so for Duke (somebody on these forums, maybe even you, had pointed out in the past a company who claims to be working simultaneously on the deployment of numerous wide area utility P25 systems).

Although still (to this day), even after the AEP EDACS went away in Ohio, there are a slew of what sound like P25 test patterns (but very widebanded, 25 khz or more) and I have no idea what they are all about -- I just know they have to do with AEP.

I just moved and have no external antennas up. So I can't snatch any of the test pattern / SCADA / whatever stuff that I've heard for AEP, but I'm betting it's very much the same kind of thing you are hearing in your neck of the woods. Basically, it just sounds like somebody turned on a buzzer, and it's much more wideband than any normal signal on 800 mhz. And in an SDR waterfall the waveform doesn't look sensible at all. And these transmissions are 24/7 active.
