sometimes i'll hear periodic tones on the placer county SO frequency, every few seconds it sounds like a heart monitor's beep. a single beep.

why do they do that? is it like radio silence thing until a unit calls code-4 or what?

excuse my stupidity.

Sounds like maybe it's a "Code 33" tone? Some agencies here use it when TSHTF and they need to restrict radio traffic to emergencies only. The tone allows the perp to hear the cop sneaking up on him/her.

Er, no. Just kidding. The tone reminds everyone that the channel is restricted to emergency traffic only.

Down here, it's always proceeded by someone asking for a Code 33, and you'll hear them announce Code 33 lifted when it's done.

i had a feeling it was a code 33... up in nevada county they just say "attention all units code 33 is in effect, code 33 is in effect" and anyone who forgets and keys up is "nicely" reminded that code 33 is in effect and then when it's lifted, "attention all units, code 33 has been lifted".

just didn't say code 33 in case it was just a nevada county term.

thanks for clearifying that.

in other placer county SO news,

i just heard two units using analog encryption (like voice inversion) for a minute and then dispatch was in unencrypted analog.

could PCSO be testing encryption?

I seriously doubt it. I heard that analog voice-inversion stuff back in 1997 when I lived in Auburn. They rarely used it.

I hear 155.52 PL 131.8 ID'd as Placer as I drove through the county yesterday, but that freq isn't in the database. Can anyone confirm this is Placer SO?

This freq/tone (155.52 PL 131.8) just popped up again today, and it's still not listed in the DB. Anyone care to submit it, if they know its usage?
