I imagine a few towns could use all, or maybe uhf/vhf combo or just one of the two. I have a tendency to think that most towns have vhf and uhf based on their ability to communicate with their fd. It varies as dept's have certain cars for certain purposes. Nipas, fiat etc or k-9 units all that plays into it.

Or supervisor cars that have both. It really depends and varies. I could name a few departments that have both radios (vhf and uhf in them ) but that really is not going to help you. It a safe bet too assume all have vhf as ispern is an almost every squad in IL.

DuPage INTEROPERABILITY Radio System

DIRS was designed as a cross-band interoperability system. I'm making an educated guess when I say that just about any public safety agency in DuPage County could show up on this system after programming one or more of these freqs into their radios (and getting the blessing of the county?). Primary use would be for interoperabilty (there's that word again) during an event where being able to communicate with folks who normally use different freqs and/or bands than you would make things go so much easier. Here's the actual freqs (handy if you'd like to listen to "all the action"):

158.7900 (simplex)
470.2625 (repeater)
855.6375* (repeater)

*(rebanded freq, was formerly 860.2625)

there are 3 frequencies in this system

VHF
UHF
800

ok thank you

i was thinking (they CAN be patched) i was wondering if the local towns use it as kind of a talk around

say Bartlett can talk on VHF and not be patched to the others

i asked this cuz the ant. im using (the 800 MHz from RS) and the location im using it from. I pick up UHF the best so that's what i have programed -- i guess il bite the big one and reprogram that back to fit a VHF and the 800 does to the fact i program lowest to highest
