On the PSR 500, is there an option when entering a FREQUENCY to let you know if you are entering a duplicate FREQUENCY in any scan list? For instance, FREQUENCY entered in scan list #1-channel 50 then the same FREQUENCY entered in scan list #5-channel 74. Will it let you know that you have a duplicate FREQUENCY already programed in scan list #1-channel 50?

The PSR500/600 by default will alert you when you enter a duplicate frequency into a memory location. However, since scan lists are NOT banks and are NOT memory locations it will not alert you when you have a frequency or talk group belonging to more than one scan list. Think of scan lists as category tags rather than as physical locations. You could have a frequency that is a federal forestry frequency that dispatches frequent fire units. You would only enter the frequency once but you could make it belong to multiple scan lists. In this example you might have it belong to both the Federal Fire scan list as well as the Forestry scan list. So the 500/600 will not alert you to having a frequency belong to multiple scan lists - this is actually a good thing as the ability to attach a frequency or talk group to multiple scan lists is quite useful!

Now, something to be aware of, if you are using software to program the scanner then it is up to that software to indicate whether you are entering a duplicate frequency into an actual memory slot. In Win500 it does not do this in real time (as far as I know). You have to select the SEARCH tab and select the "Find Duplicate Frequencies" function. But if you are entering frequencies manually then the 500/600 should alert you when you enter a duplicate frequency in an actual memory location. As far as I know, there is no way to disable it (but I've really never bothered to look for such a function).

Well, I stand corrected! I just tried entering in multiple duplicate frequencies in manually and the radio took them with no alert! I normally use software to program the radio so I suppose I overlooked this. Also, it definitely will alert you if you enter a frequency in that is a duplicate when using the SEARCH or SWEEPER function; I guess it does not do so during normal manual entry programming, though. I really thought it did alert but evidently not (except during search or sweeper paused entry). That is strange - I tried playing with the "DupeChecksSQ" function with no effect also. Odd! Well, if there is a setting to change this behavior I don't know what it is and I am pretty familiar with this radio! Sorry I mislead you!

It is odd, though!

To add to my last - it will also alert you if you use the TUNE function to enter a duplicate frequency. For example, if you select TUNE then enter the frequency and then hit STORE if the frequency is already entered it will alert you. However, as best as I can determine, when you use the PGM - NEW - CONV method it will not alert you to duplicate entries.
