Ok, Durham county Sheriff seems to have disappeared from 453.200. I am hearing what I think is Durham County Sheriff now on 453.900 which IS licensed to Durham County. Is anyone else familiar with this?

Noticed the same thing myself Saturday PM as I passed through Durham. I have no answers, but I wonder if other freqs are changed also.

Murray, i monitor the local freqs. too, and I note now that DCSO uses 453.900 as an information channel, i believe, and i think i recall it designated as channel 6....I could be wrong but I don't think so....rgds, redclay 5/10

I was wondering the same thing but have not seen them listed on viper nor has anyone on this board (before now) brought that up, I guess they did. Wonder what ever will become of the old VHF & UHF bands now that they soon will be almost vacant?

I don't think they were going with VIPER. I think they were joining the Durham TRS. It seems there were aslo going to be some upgrades to cover the whole county and possibly add digital to the system. I beleive I read this several months back here on RR.

Durham County's comm plan is to become a part of the Durham consolidated TRS expansion according to some older documentation that I can no longer find on Durham County's site now. Remember, if a city or county signs on to the VIPER plan in order to get the funding to expand/replace their comm system, there's nothing that says it will have a VIPER site, only VIPER interoperability capabilities. VIPER and 800 mHz are not synonymous despite what so many think. You don't even have to be trunked to be a part of the VIPER network.
