This morning between 9:00am and 9:30am Durham P25 went into failsoft (or maybe failsafe, not sure the exact term). I was not able to pickup anything on any of the control channels on my SDS100 nor with my Linux box trunk recorder listed at Durham-Fayetteville Trunking System, Durham, North Carolina. I did hear on Police A at 8:59 that there were to be no side channels, no op channels, etc.

Any suggestions on how to listen to Durham P25 during this radio reduced mode?

Depends on the system. MSI FailSoft would put all channels in a conventional P25 mode. It varies on how the subscribers are setup what you would hear where. Not sure how other systems work.

When it is in this mode, talkgroups are assigned to specific repeater frequencies and not all talkgroups may be active. For example, on a system I managed, we did not allow tac channels or most general govt talkgroups to go to failsoft. Mainly primary dispatch for PD/SO and FD along with maybe one Fireground TG.

Once you hear a specific TG on a repeater in failsoft, it will always appear there.

The above is correct. Though with 24 total frequencies most users on the Durham system are assigned a Failsoft conventional channel.
