No point to this thread I guess other than to say I am having a good time this weekend with some old models.
Fired up the trusty RS PRO92B ,still does really well on analog-----been listening to RR all morning on it, state troopers also. I forgot how "advanced" it was for the time. I used it for a good 10 years, still like it a lot.

And the Pro51 , not doing too bad on some NOAA Dx this morning, still does very well on VHF-UHF. I used it for about 5 years , before getting the 92B. Both these scanners have a lot of "personal" memories for me also, so they won't ever leave the collection.

Just had some "nostalgic moment's" this weekend. With all the digital , P25,DMR, NXDN, and on , and on, it felt good to get back to my "roots", sort of take a step back for moment. Hand programming, and VHF/UHF analog. I am going to start doing it a little more often, it felt pretty good. Anyone else do this? I know I am getting older, but sometimes "simpler" isn't/wasn't always a bad thing. Mike

Over Christmas my brother in law found a RS Pro 51 in the trash. He brought it over and after the turkey i programmed a bunch of analogue freqs from around my area plus aviation. I had one many years ago and programming it brought back alot of memories. He was quite happy with it and it works like a charm.

I recently dusted off my old Pro-2004 and Pro-2006 and added them to my rack with the BCD536HP and HP-1. It is alot of fun hand programming, doing limit searches, etc. And I have to say they really hold their own sensitivity wise. I have a drawer full of my old handhelds, which I sporadically take out and play with for a few days before returning them to storage.

That's an awesome story! I would have a hard time passing by any radio that looked in need of a good home. The Pro51 was a RS Uniden model (and dual conversion), but I never knew which Uniden model it was an offshoot of. One of the earlier 800/900mhz. scanners also, no trunking of course. Mike

I agree on the sensitivity , I can't believe how well these are doing on the analog searches. I am going to start taking them out more often. I used to work them in my rotation , but over the years I have so many models, I tend to forget about some of my earlier ones.

I am actually sitting here listening to them, and looking through all my old Police Call books from 1991-2005 (for most of the country). I used to really like going to RS, back when they actually cared about radio guys, and getting a new Police Call or radio. I even used to , when traveling, pickup different regional Police Call's to add to my collection, and check out the local RS's in whatever town or city I was in. I realize they are out-dated, but I learned A LOT back then from reading through them. Still have all my manuals too, I bet I read through a few of them hundred's of times. Some of this was pre-internet days (pre-cell phones for that matter). As much as I use them, the internet and phone, sometime's I think back to before all the current distractions where around (new media), and really miss those day's. Mike
