Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm gonna do it anyways. For the year that I've lived in Dover/Wingdale today was the 5th time I've seen the same black helicopter flying about 50-75 feet above route 22, very low and loud. It was hovering just down the road from me for about 2-3 minutes and left. Nothing on the scanner about a search. Heard a little chatter on 155.3700 as it was leaving the area about landing, but then i lost the signal. Any idea on what it could be? Maybe NYSEG inspecting power lines via helicopter using infrared?

I second pro92b's comment. Are you sure it wasn't dark blue?

If you heard it on 155.37 (MRD) then it definitely was law enforcement related.

Come to find out it was just the power company checking lines from above as they use this same helicopter for that job. Thought it was police related because I heard NYSP chatter on MRD from a aviation unit (Ground Saber 16) at the same time. Guess it was just a coincidence.

NYSP aviation uses either the aircraft tail number or GREY RIDER ## for callsigns.
