Looking for freq. for Dutchess County NY. Police, Fire, etc. Hyde Pk Police,Poughkeepsie
Also interested in upgrading to a different scanner. Currently have a RS Pro 39 which worked well in NYC, But jury still out on usage in Dutchess. Can anyone recommend a better hanheld that can be bought from RS?

Somewhat still a novice at this, but interested in investing some time and money to bring back an old hobby of mine that I get into years ago in NYC.

Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dutchess County

Check Dave's site www.nf2g.com/scannist for accurate information on Dutchess and other NY counties.

As for RS scanners - the PRO-97 would be good for Dutchess since it can receive EDACS trunking, which is necessary for Poughkeepsie City and Town, Hyde Park and Beacon PD's, as well as conventional systems as Poughkeepsie City fire, Dutchess Co. fire, Sheriff's Office, NYSP, etc.

Welcome.

I would recommend a Pro-97 from Radio Shack. I've used one in Dutchess with good results. I however perfer Uniden scanners and I love my BCD396T handheld.

For frequency info for Dutchess refer to the RR database:
http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&ctid=1838

And NF2G.com (especially for the NYCOMCO Trunked systems used by many Local PD's especially Town & City of Poughkeepsie and City of Beacon):
http://www.nf2g.com/scannist/index.html

Also some good references at East Coast Scanning:
http://www.eastcoastscanning.com/viewforum.php?f=90&sid=21e0878c850e5efed042032e8de1a3df

Hope this helps,

Don't forget the LTR system in East Fishkill...and the Pro 97 will do LTR as well. Welcome to the Hudson Valley!

Thank You All.

Just up from NYC...moved out of city with my family to Dutchess County Area.

Need to pick up this hobby again. Had scanner in NYC and was looking to upgrade.

Had the PRO-39 & Realistic PRO 36, Picked up PRO-97 today in Westchester.

I am also looking into base unit for home with all accessories.

Sorry in advance for any dumb questions that might come up, but it has been a long time since scanning and still trying to understand "trunking".

Thanks,

52Mike

If you are looking for a base scanner the PRO-97's cousin the PRO-2055 might be a good choice, but search the forum there have been problems with the display quitting. I've had one for a few years and have had no problems though.

I personally used a Uniden BC796D with good results and I'm looking at both BCD996T and a BCT15.

Dutchess is a fun place for scanner listening. In my opinion Dutchess 911 has one of the best Fire/EMS radio systems in the area. The Town & City of Poughkeepsie PD are also a lot of fun to monitor. NYSP activity is fairly quiet though as most use MDT's for comms at least in the Poughkeepsie area.

Hope this helps,

This is the correct order for the NYCOMCO Beacon EDACS system:

Site 02 - Mt. Beacon
LCN/Frequency
1 856.1875
2 857.1875
3 857.7125
4 854.1375
5 856.6875
6 859.6125
7 858.1875
8 859.1875

Enter them in the listed order or it will not work correctly. Don't worry about the control channel sound right now. Follow the instructions in the manual. Your changing listening worlds now. Be patient.

Questions.

For BEACON NY. I have a pro 97 scanner. Beacon is a edac system. When i enter the freqs, should i keep it in CLOSED MODE? or OPEN mode? Do i Enter group talk ids? It says the freqs must be in order. Meaning? 852,853,854,855? Or just enter exactly how the list is. I put in the MOUNT BEACON freqs. (http://nf2g.com/scannist/index.html). but i got newburgh, orange county, and a whole bunch of ids, came up when i hit scan,NONE of them reguarding beacon PD. Someone help a me out!,i want to get into this hobby, but i need you guys to help me. thanks! P.S. I live in beacon myself.

Take a deep breath

Ken,

Question 1: When entering the frequecnies at does not matter what mode the bank is in, open or closed.

Question 2: see question 1

Question 3: Entering talkgroup IDs is strongly recommended when listening to any New York Communications Company (NYComCo) trunked Specialized Mobile Radio (SMR) system - reason being is that you'll hear a great many commercial / businesses also operating on their systems; scroll down the list and see for yourself www.nf2g.com/scannist/NYCOMCO_EDACS.html. In order to avoid hearing that Truck 9 is done dropping off 500 gallons of number 2 home heating oil at the Doe residence, enter into your scan list only the talkgroups you're interested in - and then close that bank - you will only hear what you want to (unless listening to heating oil delivery guys is your thing).

Question 4: Meaning Logical Channel Number (LCN) order. e911god gave you the LCN order for Beacon above. I see in one of your other posts that you've overcome the common error of starting with bank channel 0. LCN1 goes in Channel 1, LCN2 goes in... ... ...

Question 5: see above.

I'm sure that once your scan list is established - thus filtering out all the Orange County and commerical traffic - Beacon's traffic will be more pronounced.

Best of luck,

SCANdal
