Hey all! I recently purchased a DVD / VHS recorder to put all my old home movies onto DVD's. I am now trying to make copies of the DVD's on my computer. I have a DVD-RW drive as well as a DVD ROM drive. I purchased ROXIO EASY DVD COPY 2 at staples and it sucks. $50.00 for nothing...I'll be bringing it back. I have everything in order...hit copy, and immediatley it says "complete". No action, no blinking lights, no nothing...it just says complete, of corse the blank dvd is still blank!

Anyone know of an easy way to do this?

Thanks!

Hello,

Most DVD's are using DRM and are encrypted. However, to copy DVD's you would need 3 software programs:

DVD Shrink
DVD Decrypter
Nero

DVD Shrink breaks the encryption and compresses the data to fit on a 4.7G disc. If DVD Shrink can't break encryption or has errors, use DVD Decrypter. DVD Decrypter breaks the encryption, but does not compress ISO Video Files. Use DVD Shrink to compress ISO Files after using DVD Decrypter.

Nero is used to copy DVD from DVD Shrink. The program runs in background and is the default burning software for DVD Shrink. Nero can only burn movie after encryption has been removed.

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are free. Nero is not BUT you can save the DVD in ISO from DVD Shrink and then use burnatonce to make the DVD. burnatonce is free as well.

good luck finding 'DVD Decrypter'....

"With 3.5.4.0 being the last version, it makes sense for everyone to disable the "check for new versions" feature, as obviously there won't be any. Of course what I really mean is that you should all stop using the program out of respect for the company's rights...Anyone hosting DVD Decrypter is advised to cease doing so immediately. I've the feeling they won't stop with just me. I'm having to contact anyone I know of that is (at the very least, the "mirror" sites), and tell them to stop. Copies of those emails must also be sent to the solicitors so they can check I'm doing everything I'm supposed to." http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6501.cfm

Check out the forums at http://www.afterdawn.com. They have several threads concerning this topic and other topics of the sorts. A great reference for "backing up" your movies. Also, someone previously mentioned DVD Decrypter, which I use. I also use DVD Fab Decrypter. Check out the afore mentioned site, you'll like it.

I've "heard" ;) that DVD Shrink is a lot faster to copy & shrink a DVD, then you can just use DVD Decrypter to burn it. Takes a total of 20-30 minutes depending on how large it is.

But, you can find a serial number for Nero. I did.

Keys, cracks and keygens.

Make sure you have good anti-viruses software and is updated before searching these shadow sites. Trust me.

I recommend avast. It has boot time scan to allow for a check before windows is loaded among other things. Also, to be a little safer get a free copy of the basic Zone alram fire wall and use --->

Of course if you use linux ignore all this. :)

Dump the mac.

I don't think there are too many programs for mac that will do this.

Like to see Mac add this to their new commercial line.

Ebay should have cheap movies! Burns.

Thanks for all the replies everyone!

I am just trying to put a blank DVD+R into my DVD burner and my home video DVD+R in my dvd drive, and copy the home movie onto the blank movie. I still need all those programs to do that?

There is no copyright protection on source disk, it was just recorded from a stand alone DVDR / VHS unit. I thought if I just got the software (called DVD copy) it would work.
