The Sheriffs dept went digital & I programmed the new frequency but it’s just static. I was told it is definitely not encrypted.Does anyone know what I’m doing wrong? I have a Ws1065 Whistler. I have a friend that is able to receive with no problem.

So, does he have a WS1065, or something else? If he has something else, could be why he's receiving and you're not.

Early county does have a DMR license for FD.... So, maybe they went to that digital mode also.

Supported trunking systems include Motorola Analog, EDACS, LTR and Digital APCO (9600 bps).

Your scanner only decodes P25 and your county either went DMR or NXDN. You would need to get a new scanner and probably have to pay for that upgrade in addition to decode it.

Any Uniden, such as the 996P2 and 325P2 require paying $60+ for each upgrade to DMR and NXDN.

Whistlers, such as the TRX-1/2 come with DMR/NXDN in the scanner.

Don't know how you program the 1065, but the above scanners are quite a leap from that model.

I didn't mention the SDS scanners because of the recent posts about conventional VHF/UHF frequencies not being heard as well as simulcast trunking, digital P-25.

Plus I truly believe that they, the SDS series, are overpriced for the average scanner hobbyist.

That's the reason why I haven't gotten one. If conventional is horrible and it's only good for simulcast, it's a real let-down because there's a lot mixed from the mid state.

Thanks for the info. Guess I need to buy a new scanner. Not sure if I can do an upgrade with this scanner

You can't, unfortunately. When your model was released, DMR and NXDN were still in an infancy stage and consumer-grade scanners couldn't decode them. Get a Whistler like N8IAA mentioned and it should do just fine with your area. TRX-1 is the handheld, TRX-2 is the desktop.

Early County actually experimented with NXDN digital maybe 5 or 6 years ago. When I worked in that area, I remember hearing them testing it. Apparently they didn't care for it, and started using Analog again.

So I'm not surprised this has came (back) up, I am pretty sure they had some of the infrastructure in place already.
