I was discussing the model 396 with another radio junky today. We both got onto the topic of the open earphone jack. It would have been nice if Uniden would have incuded some type of rubber insert to use in the earphone jack when it was not in use.
So it comes to my question. What can be used to plug the earphone jack while it is not in use?????

You should be able to use ANY plug designed for a mini stereo jack. It's going to sit so it should not fall out or anything. Just don't trim any excess off so much as to make it all fit in the hole.

Minitor II pagers have good plugs of that size, as do many two-way commercial radios. Some might even have rings that are designed to fit around the antenna jack so even if the plug does come out, you won't lose it.

FWIW, GRE didn't include one with the PRO-96 either, and on that model both the earphone (also on top) AND PC programming jack (side) are exposed.
