I ordered several 3.5 mm stereo plug single earphones. I ended up with three malfunctioning. Then, thinking it was the earphones, I bought a different brand; however, the sound keeps getting interpreted like a loose connection. Since it is unlikely that 5 brand new earphones would all malfunction at once is rather implausible. I would appreciate some feedback on this matter.

What is the ohm spec on the earphones?

If mono plugs, they may be shorting the ring (tip/ring/ground) which if I am not mistaken, is the config of the 436.

No, I have been using this earphone design for over 10 years without a problem. I don't know the ohm rating. I am interested in hearing about the ring ground. I did try plugging it in the auxiliary of a stereo for a brief period. I hope I did not mess something up. I looked and it appears to be 8 ohm.

The earphone has to have a stereo 3.5mm / 1/8" plug. It should be 32 ohms, but that's pretty standard for headphones/earphones. Have you checked to make sure there is a hair or something in the jack interfering with the connection? Do the plugs plug all the way in?

Yes, I have thought of having a foreign object lodged down the hole. However, I am not having the same issue with a pair of Samsung earplugs that came with my Samsung S7. I don't understand why this has occurred since I've used these earphones since I bought the radio. That has been a number of years as I previously stated. I will attempt to peer down in the hole to determine whether something is lodged. I might shoot a blast of air down there while the unit is inverted. I have heard that those who used the auxiliary input jack on a car stereo can blow out the jack or circuit associated with such. I am wildly guessing at this point in time, scratching my monobrowed head.

If any earphones work OK, then you haven't damaged the scanner. But it is odd that several earphones have the same issue.

As they say at Oat WIllies in Austin, "Onward through the fog." I will keep on trying to figure this out. Thanks for your assistance.
