Kern County has a Type 2 strike team and also USAR 52, Crew 11, Helicopter 408 in town as of now. LACoFD is also sending a USAR out of Lancaster. Still lots of good aftershocks happening and power is out in town.

Lots of traffic on China Lake PD freq and both Ridgecrest PD freqs. So far we have had 244 quakes in 5 hours and 45 minutes, well over 40 quakes an hour. 6 of them are mag 4.5 or larger. And it is still going on, no sign of slowing down. This is a very unusual earthquake swarm.

And just as a reference point, there were 2 very small quakes in the area defined by this quake swarm in the previous 30 days.

At one point when the power was out had three portables on, one running Kern 3, one on Kern 2, one on Ridgecrest PD. Still getting good sized aftershocks tonight.

Our power was out for only a few seconds, did not even have time to turn on the backup power stuff. And yeah, aftershocks keep on rolling. So far, in not quite 22 hours since the first 4.2, we have had over 1005 quakes / aftershocks. 7 of them have been 4.5 or larger, 20 have been 4.0 or larger, and 202 have been 2.5 or larger. 2.5 is roughly the smallest many people can feel, depending on a lot of variables. So we have had about 9 quakes an hour that some people might be feeling, and about 2 quakes an hour that for sure can be felt.

Wow, that last one I felt here in central California. It was mild here and something fell off the shelf. A large mirror on the wall even rattled. I thought it was over but it kept going for about 15 seconds. Looks like it was a 6.9 magnitude (Updated it to 7.1) and 1 km deep back in the Ridgecrest area again.

Pool water was rocking, but it did not splash out of the pool. I haven't felt a shake like that since I was in Tokyo.

That was quite a bit stronger than yesterday's quake. I'm about 100 miles south of the epicenter. I expect Token felt this one pretty good! Hope all is well up there.

Listening to the radio traffic and one responder told his commander that several of the walls of his home crumbled, as well as one of his garage walls. 7.1 is significant.

To all those in Cali stay safe and be prepared. Know how to shut off the natural gas. Buy a few weeks worth of SHTF prepared food and have plenty of water and I'd add some purification straws to the mix. I'm an active SHTF member at a SHTF forum and we've all talked about this and the fault around Mississippi, etc. Mother nature is very, VERY unforgiving and she'll weed out the weakest right quick. Also make sure that if you take medication you have plenty on store.

Never depend on public safety, etc.

This earthquake produced the amount of energy equivalent to 337,000 tons of TNT which is a little over 15 times greater than the A-bomb dropped on Nagasaki.

I read some years ago that earthquakes actually cause the Earth to wobble or tilt. Can't remember which now. Albeit this is like a factor of 0.000001% or some damn thing.
