websites, buried in city council budget and county budget meeting minutes.

Decent website. That's San Leandro Hill on the left; considered the "prime site". And the new local Gov colo at Vollmer (very nice setup). ALCO used to be in the remnants of the old Military building - I think was Nike related but didn't have any missles there - just behind the new one. SLH is also former Military. Coyote Hills is another former Military site, just north of the 84 E tollplaza, where ALCO also has a site.

Why do all of the coverage maps end at the County line? Do they not plan for units leaving the County (such as pursuits etc).

I'm sure the actual terrain coverage plots aren't that neat and clean to stop at the
border.

I know San Francisco's are not.

Did you look at the consultants report on the system? Very interesting. Motorola had proposed a 3 cell system with 28 freqs. The consultant said a 1 cell system with 19 freqs would be better. Peter Sz

1 cell? I guess they feel they can throw a site up on top of Mt Diablo and just hose the whole county down in RF. Since several other counties will be in range they can use it too! :roll:

I only read the conclusion but I'm going to give it more time. I'm not sure about three sites either. You've got to cover the western area around Richmond, the 680 corridor, Antioch/Pittsburg and then the Byron Oakley area. Then there's also the Morgan Territory area. Not a great area for 800/700.

The plan calls for 3 Cells in Contra Costa County each with 4 to five simultaneous radio sites. Personally I think the 1 Cell in Contra Costa County with 14 Simultaneous transimtter sites will work better. I am quite familiar with VHF and UHF propagation in Contra Costa County and there are places in West Contra Costa County where the Cummings Site will fill in a lot of gaps. There are places in Central Contra County where the Kregor and Highland Sites will fill in a lot of Gaps. I am sure all of these are being looked at and if they are able to move to the new 700 MHZ band, there will be sufficient frequencies available.

I didn't read the whole document, but what I did directly contradicts what you wrote.

They acknowledge that the idea for the 3 cells comes from the current dispatch configuration, but that they feel a single cell would work better.

Maybe I missed that part.

I guess the issue is that Motorola has proposed a system, and this report we're reading is the critique of it. So the plan could be modified...everything we've posted is based on an evolving proposal, right?

The proposed configuration is based on which the Contra Costa County Sheriff is doing and not the Contra Costa County Fire Regional Center and how it operates. Probably because the Sheriff is not involved very much with the incorporated Cities as much as the Regional Fire center is.

Looks like several sites will go live by September. Oakland refuses to join and CalTrans will also use the system.
