For the last few days, the EL PD reception has been full of static and other interfering distortion at my location. Have they made some changes?

The East Lyme radio system has been having issues for some time. East Lyme Fire is extremely low, so low that there are many places in town that when it tones out the pagers don't trip. East Lyme Police, on the same system, somehow have not been experiencing this, but have had their own problems.
A new repeater is up in the area of Mostaway, off of Rt 161, but it really has not helped the situation much, and the town has yet to adress the need for a repeater that covers Black Point and Giants Neck.

... my location is in Niantic, and my other most frequent location is a Fire Station on Rt 85 at Grassy Hill Rd, where we cover mutual aid into East Lyme frequently, but has serious issues contacting Station B via radio.

Sounds like it’s time to make the jump to CLMRN or switch to waterfords system full time like new London did

Thanks for the info Sefrischling, I noticed that the static and other noises seem to have begun two weeks ago, just about the time when they were stretching a new cable across 156 in front of the new Police, Fire complex. It could also be a coincidence.
I've also noticed that Old Lyme FD is now simulcasting on CLMRN, maybe that's the way EL should go.

East Lyme was very clear when they went independent, they would not be joining CLMRN, they did not want to be tied to a state system nor have the costs associated with a system they did not control. There is no consideration of joining the Waterford radio system due to a variety of reasons. I have been following this, as a town resident, for years.

Valley Shore is on CLMRN, which is why you hear Old Lyme / Lyme. East Lyme has been very clear it plans to stay off the state system. I hope that changes, but so far they are pretty well dug in.
