Has anyone heard anything new about East Lyme joining the Waterford system ? It's been a few months since it was in the NL Day.

There are no plans right now for them to go on the Waterford System. They want to stay on 150 MHz. They are patched only when necessary to communicate with a Waterford unit for mutual aid.

In THE DAY newspaper a few months back it was stated that, as a cost measure, East Lyme & Waterford were in the "talking" stage about E.L. being dispatched from Waterford . The part time dispatchers would be eliminated and the full time dispatchers would move to the Waterford Facility. A Waterford spokesman said that the Waterford system already can cover all of East Lyme. There was even a $$ savings estimate mentioned. East Lyme has a really good radio system installed only a few years ago, I guess they may have changed their minds.

East Lyme did put in a 150 MHZ system for all Town services. They have a few voted Receive sites but have had interference issues causing them to change from PL to DCS and back to a different PL.. Coverage is still spotty on VHF with portables. There was talk on combined dispatch with Waterford but the new 1st Selectman shot that down.

Today the House approved EL/NL/Wtfd consolidating their dispatch centers ... while our previous 1st Selectman pushed it through the house, the current 1st Selectman is not behind it.

ELFD and ELFD occasionally are patched to the Wtfd system, but it is not often. FD seems to pop up more than PD. Monitoring ELPD can be a challenge, as most radio calls come over the VHF channel, then over CSP Troop E. Some come from Troop E and never end up on VHF.

East Lyme would not go DMR to link to Old Lyme, Old Lyme is not Troop E. EL would go to Wtfd/NL which makes far more sense.

The house did NOT APPROVE A CONSOLIDATION . . . Just make sure the RIGHT info get's out... There is a big difference.....

They approved the ability (if all towns agree) to create a "Regional Dispatch Authority" . . . . Very different and very far away from a Consolidation or Unified anything....

It's a step, administrative baby-step, but it's a step. Good Luck (if it moves forward) do it right . . .

Ok what i meant is east lyme could DMR there VHF system and connect it on the IP side to Old Lyme on UHF and be able to talk to each other. Old lyme uses the DMR just a chit chat and for the parking guys at the beach

I thought OLFD was going DMR, but luckily they are staying on LowBand/UHF.

In Old Lyme only the FD is still Low/Band/UHF. Everything else is DMR.

Anti,

But East Lyme will not go for it under the current first selectman. East Lyme has capabilities on the Wtfd/NL system with their own talk groups, but they do not have the radios to access it. It is via patch at this time
