I have a summer house out in the southhampton sag harbor area and routinely bring the radio out. I have a gre-500 and have Suffolk pd trunk programmed in. I have no problem hearing them on the way out from Nassau. But I get no activity on at the summer house and even when I bring it in the car around town. I hear all the VHF UHF channels out on the east end with no problem. Just wondering what the issue might be.

Hi ninth, im suprized you can't hear them out that way. A tower is near or in North Sea area almost next to you. If you can hear them on the way out east the scanner is working. Maybe a GRE or Radio Shack 800Mhz. rubber duck antenna may help to receive them better. I have heard alot of the dispatchers lately asking for radio checks, some report scratchyness. Maybe an issue on their end, Im not sure.

I figured I should hear them. I'm wondering if it's a setting on the scanner. I'm still getting used to the 500. Randomly I'll hear riverhead pd. and even when I'm in eastern Nassau I don't get Suffolk PD to clear. But when I'm in lets say islip, it comes in clear.

You don't by chance have the attenuator on, on any of the scpd trunked freqs?

Also, how do you have the system programed? Just the 4 control channels or all the 23 freqs?

I had the same problem with my GRE 500 and when I updated my program all is well, across the sound Lang southern CT. I also went with the 800 MHz antenna from RS.

Ok. Thanks for the input. I'm going to reprogram the Suffolk band when I get home and see how that works. I programmed it directly from radio reference to the programming software. So I figured it should have worked fine
