Noticed today that eastside Fire dispatch-1 is automated. Like Seattle's Fire dispatches, the same robotic sounding woman. I have read somewhere here or on INW that she has a name given to her by SFD FF's. Not sure if i like it or not.. Seattle's really gets to me after a while.. Hope this one doesn't..

At first I did not like it at all, but I think it is much better than live dispatchers. Some of them speak too fast or pronounce poorly. It's far better to speak slowly and clearly so there is no misunderstanding or question as to the right address.

the new tones on eastside fire are so loud now (compared to other talkgroups). their program is obviously still in its very early stages. i've noticed a few glitches and sometimes a real human dispatcher will make some call outs. but at least with this new program, the streets are easier to understand (i think).

what i don't get is why they have it computerize on the trunked system, but on Eastside fire's other dispatch paging frequencies (460.625, 154.400, 460.575) they still have the dispatchers verbally dispatch stuff. they are the same calls, just dispatched two different ways. kinda weird . . .

I knew it!

Q: Does the Locution CADVoice sound like a mechanical voice?
A: CADVoice words are recorded by a woman and the voice sounds like the woman, not like synthesized speech.

I'm not sure why this is in there and I think the answer should have been worded differently:

Q: What if something happens to Locution’s voice talent and the woman is no longer available? Does the voice change?
A: Locution has relationships with various female speech talent who have skills which allow them to mimic the voice of the primary voice talent.

a funny story about this: the other day, I was watching komo 4 news and they were reporting live from the "news room" and I actually heard the fire tones go out in the background at the news assignment desk that was near by (where they listen to like a dozen scanners). I know they probably turned down all the scanners for the broadcast, but because the new fire tones are so loud, they still interrupted the report! LOL
