Recently I got back into ham radio. Where I live, I cannot go running multiple cables out of the building like a 911 dispatch so DMR, DMR Hotspot, and echolink work better for me. Trust me, I live in the worst place as far as radio propagation is concerned. I decided to get on a repeater and talk to some old ham friends and was told that the mic on my RT4 was picking up a lot of background noise in the room. Fair enough, I made sure to turn things down in the room and tell my wife to not say anything while I was on the radio. Surprisingly, she was ok with it. I again jump on another repeater and I am given a lecture about FCC rules and the bandwidth of my audio. I purposely set my audio lower through Echolink as not to allow background noise of any sort through. I have since removed echolink out of the RT4. This was only my second or third time talking over the repeater since I got back into it and all I got was criticized. My question is whether or not the Radio-tone RT4 was meant to be used on echolink? Before I got it, I wanted it for zello as that is where I do most of my communication when away from the house and I found amazing reviews on it by hams. Im confused.
