EDACS Pro Voice

Does anyone know if Radio Shack or Uniden will offer a Trunking scanner that will decode the EDACS Pro- Voice digital voice.

I'm sorry jcooke, but there are no indications of any scanner manufacturer developing a ProVoice capable radio.

MA/COM hold the rights on the ProVoice process, and all indications are they are not going to release the information to the scanner manufacturers.

So, the answer is no.

Long answer, short.. not at this time. I am sure it is an viable marketing issue, but there are problems with different things.

Being an new person on the forums.... this issue has been discussed many times. Best advice is to start searching these forums to see the various topics on this. The Texas forums has a good sticky on an EDACS ProVoice system, and some ensuing discussions in those forums, and numerous topics in Tyco/MAComm, EDACS forums..... read up and become better educated and you'll answer you're own question.

Thanks, I thought that was the issue with MA/COM owning the rights to Pro Voice. The Pro-Voice decoder would be a good project for a small company to build and market for scanners.

If it was a good product for a small conpany to sell, it would be a good product for Uniden or RadioShack to sell.

The issue is that the rights to the technology are proprietary to M/A-COM (and/or DVSI) and th elicense fees (if you could get a license) make it unprofitable for such a small market.

There has been much discussion on why M/A-COM (and most other Land Mobile companies) would NOT want it sold. (even if someone was crazy enough to think it was a good business.)

As far as I can see, M/A Com will not release the rights to ProVoice so they can guarantee their public safety users total privacy. Then again, GE thought nobody would ever figure out EDACS and the LCN's.... :twisted:

I did some research just to see what M/A Com thinks about scanners. This quote comes direct from their EDACS Provoice product brochure:

What about buying an EDAC's radio with pro vocie capablity? then can we program that radio to listen to pro voice or is this a lost cause to?
