To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a brand new BC 245XLT that I have successfully programmed it to trunk Motorola systems. However, when it comes to EDACS...

I have the list of freq.'s for Toronto EMS. I put the 245XLT into trunk programming mode, select Bank #1, select ed for EDACS, program the 8x freq. listed on this site for Toronto EMS in ascending order, manually programmed the talk-groups also listed on this site, and then set the scanner to scan in trunk mode. NOTHING!

I can manually monitor the CC (863.0375) and hear it loud and clear. I can also see on the display (the little bars) that the scanner (when in trunk scan mode) is tracking the CC.

The one odd thing is that I have two additional freq.'s that are listed in the Bearcat freq. book that came with the scanner (863.2875, 863.5375). I have tried entering these in the same bank, also in ascending order (right after the CC @ 863.0375) and still nothing. Manually monitoring these freq. I can hear lots of transmissions. These transmissions are in the east end of the city which is where I am located.

I've re-programmed that bank three times now and reset the scanner once. Still no luck. Now I am aware that TO EMS is moving to the Fleetnet system but I believe that so far only their portables are there and not the hardwired in truck radio's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

:?

Welcome to the group.
Make sure that you are starting at ch.01 and not midway through the bank. The last two freq.'s you listed do not have to be entered in
Trunk mode. Enter them conventionally.
So which ever bank you choose, make sure you enter the freq.in order
starting at x01. Give it a try.

Toronto EDACS System Questions

So,

Yes, I had started programming on Channel #1 of Bank #1 the 8x EDACS freq.'s.

1. 858.1375
2. 858.3875
3. 858.6375
4. 858.8875
5. 859.1375
6. 862.5375
7. 862.7875
8. 863.0375

I'm right on the eastern boarder of Toronto and had no luck getting any reception with the 245XLT. I moved further into the city and it started to work just fine - well mostly! I noticed that the scanner, which was locking onto Freq. #8 (863.0375 – as the CC) in the east, was now using Freq. #3 (858.6375) as the CC. It seams both Freq. #3 & #8 are CC’s. However, #8 doesn’t give me any transmissions from the system.

However, in the east, with #8 as the CC, the scanner will occasionally show activity by displaying a talk-group ID but there is no actual audio.

Another question. The two additional Freq.'s from the Bearcat book - 8623.2875 and 863.5375 - seem to have EMS Eastern District transmissions on them when just scanning, or manually; but they are not trunked by the scanner. I tried entering these freq.’s in channel #9 & #10 of the EDACS bank and in another bank with just Freq. #8 as the CC. The only way to monitor these freq.'s is manually. These freq.'s seem to be part of a trunked system as you can hear the tell tale 'chirps' before and during transmissions and there are data bursts from time to time as well when listening manually.

Any insight into the finer points of the Toronto EMS EDACS system would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Sometimes I have trouble scanning T.O's EDACS system also. I dont know where the antennas are but at my work (Rexdale, duck!) and where I live (Roncie) there are times when the signal is coming in but it wont trunk.

Perhaps We must acquire the signal at strong strenghts, maybe if there is any fuzz it wont trunk.

Just as a side I have not monitored the EMS EDACS for awhile but, and a big BUT, Toronro EMs is moving to the Toronto Public Safety system. You may find more EMS traffic on that system than the EDACS right now.

TO EMS EDACS & TO Public Safety Net

As far as I know, at this time only TO EMS portable radios are on the Safety Net. The in truck radios are still on the EDACS system. They are moving but not yet.

Well, at least you got it working!
I have the first 8 channels entered in EDACS mode and the "other"
two channels entered conventionally.
Here in Etobicoke, EDACS tracks no problem. When I go out of town
to Newcastle, only the "other" channels are received on the 245.

As dereves mentioned before, more and more comms are
being heard on TPS sites in the 24xxx and 25xxx TG range.
Heard a "phone patch" to Sunnybrook on 25936 recently, which I
haven't heard since the days of ALS-3 on 143.340 mHz.

Remember, location-specific posts posts should be in the
appropriate forums.(Canada)
You've probably got some people wondering what the heck this is all about .
