EDACS Question

I have been staying in Springfield, Mo.
There is an EDACS System here in town.

I sent in a submission for it, hasn't been updated.
I don't have a DC Tap on my scanners.


Here is the question
Most of the time the scanner displays the TGs really quickly and I can't hear anything.
But sometimes I can actually hear the transmissions.


Would it be safe to assume that I go the LCN correct, since I can hear them sometimes. Or is something screwed up, since I don't hear them most of the time?

Maybe there is a possibilty that I'm just barely within range to pick up the system.

If you have this system programmed in a Radio Shack scanner make sure you start the LCN sequence on chanel ending in 1 of the bank you have it in not channel ending in zero - ie if the bank you have it in the first channel is 60 then lock that channel out and start the LCN sequence on chan 61 = reasn is that RS scanners start their bank channel numbers with zero ( ie 0-9 instead of 1-0) - EDACS systems start with channel 1 for the first frequency in the LCN so your first channel must be the first channel in the bank that ends in 1 (61, 81 etc)

I know how to program an EDACS System correctly, I was just wondering what could cause it to not track the system correctly. Where it would sometimes seem like it tracks one of the TGs correctly.
On that specific TG it seemed like I could hear the dispatcher, but not the field unit.

I do believe I did have the LCN wrong.
There is no way for me the verify that though.

Hearing the dispatch but not the other unit indicates you may not be correctly programmed. If this is the case, you should hear 4 or 5 beeps after the dispatch releases the mike button. If you don't hear the beeps (one beep is normal), the field unit delayed long enough for the control to disengage the voice frequency and move to another but another talkgroup was on at the same time, causing you to catch a voice frequency (VC) for it's transmission.

Try placing the scanner on HOLD/PAUSE for dispatch. With your 396, 96 & 97, you can preselect this talkgroup for holding.

Edit: Rereading my post. If the unit did delay (causing the control to move on), and the listed LCN is wrong, you may very likely miss the field unit.
