Drugs and gangs are a definite growing problem in all metro areas, Edmonton included. But all of these transmissions (of which there are more and more) are on talkgroups that are both Provoice digital and DES encrypted. Most of all the action talkgroups are digital, and/or encrypted, and (I can tell you from first hand knowledge) more and more are encrypted because it's clear from forums like this that there are people out there pursuing the means to listen to digital talkgrops that are not encrypted...

So in a way, forums like this are contributing to the death of scanning at times like this, especially if they are google searchable.

I remember not too long ago when drugs, gang and surveillance talkgroups were a) in the clear analog, and then b) unencrypted digital. So in the space of less than two years they have gone from clear, to obscured, to untouchable...
