For what it's worth, I can confirm the Supervisors channel without leaving my chair. :)

The Crossfield Fire Department, in the town of the same name approx. 1/3 of the way to Red Deer from Calgary, uses 413.3875 pl 100.0 as its main dispatch channel. Sometimes the system somehow drops its PL and the repeater goes to CSQ, and we hear transit supervisors boom in loud and clear.

Actually Crossfield's radio is not behaving lately and I'm wondering if the transit comms are overpowering them now that winter has arrived.

They can hear the ETS Supervisors from Crossfield?! I can barely hear them 10k south of Leduc on the QE2 using my 246 with a 48" whip magmount. They must have one hell of an antenna.

Well, Crossfield's repeater receiver antenna is likely located a little higher off the ground, on top of the tower. :) Also, this is no doubt an instance of ducting. The signal is likely ducting over your head when you're south of Leduc.

Ducting is usually sporadic and rare, but there are cases where ducting occurs regularly, due to atmospheric conditions and local terrain. It sounds like this is one of those cases where ducting occurs often.

I'm not surprised this signal is heard as far south as Crossfield. The source is a 100 Watt repeater from the BonnieDoone tower in south Edmonton. This tower must be 150-200 feet tall.

This frequency lite's up my BC396T in Close call mode a couple of miles away with a stalk antenna laying on a car seat.

I should have mentioned that part - almost all the repeaters for the MD of Rocky View, including Crossfield, are on the Airdrie "rentenna", which is 325+ ft above ground level.
