Does anyone know about the new digital system that Eielson is going to? Will I be able to listen? We just recieved some radios today, but I don't know if the system is working yet.
The system is not just Eielson's, it's Statewide and it's called the Alaska Land Mobile Radio (ALMR). It's going to be used (and being used) by most, if not all of Deparment of Defense and the State of Alaska agencies. You will need a Pro-96 or a BC296D/BC796D radio to be able to listen.
Figuring out the system still a work in progress, so at the moment you won't be able to listen and follow everything that's going on. Here's the link within this site with most of the info that's been gathered so far: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=TRSDB&sid=2447
I'm curious, what radios did you guys received?
I'm guessing Motorola XTS5000\Spectra or maybe EF Johnson 5100\5300
I am looking for a 796D. Is there anywhere in Fairbanks that sells them? Or maybe Anchorage? I don't recall Frigid North in Anch having them. I seem to be looking at about $580 shipped from HRO.
I don't know alot about the Pro-96. But I love my 780XLT.
I kind of doubt you'll find the latest digital scanners locally, even in Anchorage. And if they did have them, you will pay a lot more. I buy all my radios through the web, never had a problem and always a reasonable price.
