Stratton woman dies in crash near Calhan

THE GAZETTE

A 45-year-old Stratton woman was pronounced dead at the scene today after a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 24, four miles east of Calhan. Her husband, 48, who was driving their 2003 Kia, was flown to Memorial Hospital. His condition was not available.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, they were heading west around 10 a.m., when their car crossed the center line and collided with a 1994 Ford Explorer driven by a 37-year-old Penrose man.

The Ford rolled off the road, and bystanders pulled the driver from the vehicle, which then caught on fire, the state patrol said. He was flown to Penrose Hospital; his name and condition were not available.
