When deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office arrived at the home in the 6000 block of Waterfall Loop, no one answered the door. A spokesperson says the the deputies looked through a window and saw two children lying on a bed, looking like they had been hurt.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says at that point, deputies forced their way into the home. The children, ages 2 and 5, were unconscious. The children died in the home. Their names were not immediately released.

The children's father, who was in the home, confronted deputies. During that confrontation, one of the deputies shot the man and killed him. The man's name was also not released.
