PEYTON, Colo. (AP) -- El Paso County sheriff's officials say lightning from an afternoon thunderstorm sparked three wildfires that were quickly contained, but not before they scorched nearly 300 acres and destroyed a barn.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Lari Sevene says another outbuilding was damaged by the flames that were started about 2 p.m. in Peyton. One fire scorched 184 acres, while another blackened 68 acres. Another scorched 5 acres.

All three fires were contained at about 5 p.m.
