FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DATE: 06-29-2008 TIME: 5:50 P.M.
On June 29, 2008 at approximately 6:30 A.M., Colorado State Troopers responded to a fatal crash on Elbert Road 166 west of Tapadero Circle near Kiowa. A blue 1991 Toyota Camry was eastbound on County Road 166 when it drifted off the left side of the road. The vehicle struck a fence and continued eastbound striking several trees. The vehicle began a roll as the right side tires came off the ground before striking a large tree. The vehicle did not roll and did a 1/2 counter-clockwise spin, coming to rest on its wheels.
The restrained driver has been identified as Jesse Kitchens, age 18 of Elizabeth, CO. Kitchens sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Elbert County Coroner.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.
Next of kin have been notified.
