During the major winter storm that occurred Saturday monitor systems gave false readings for a TV station's transmitting equipment.
At first they thought they had a major electrical problem on their tower, but then they realized that something more powerful was taking place.
They first came across the electrical discharge when they were at the Transmitter facilities of their TV station.
The spikes of electricity jumping off the guidelines of the tower were causing monitor systems to give false readings for the transmitting equipment.
It was one of those once in a lifetime events and they got it on tape.
The audio you hear is the electrical discharge from the guidelines of the tower to ground. The louder snaps you hear is the discharge jumping over 24” insulators to ground.

Yep, gotta watch those "guidelines" and "guidewires."

Big dog power lines can be pretty spectacular in certain weather conditions, too.

It's probably good to give someone else credit for the description. Seems to me they are confused about the definition of guideline vs. guyline.
