Hey all from Indiana try and figure this one out for me. I found that our divison chief here at the fd I work at has a safe-t portable. We are here in elkhart county and there are no active talk groups but i got a list of what is programmed into his radio. There are nurmeous talk groups assigned to the county but I don't know who has the portables. Any help as to what I can find out if they are digital or analog? I can also go and find the listings for you and see what somebody out there with a digital scanner or somebody using trunker software/programs can id this. Also the site number for elkhart was previously 508. It's also at the corner of county road 9 and county road 26 by our landfill. I believe it's by the wfrn radio station or behind sam's mobile radio.

I'm sure you know Wakarusa. My wife is originally from and was raised in Wakarusa. My wife graduated from Northwood High School in Nappanee. My father-in-law was a volunteer firefighter for the Wakarusa FD for 25 years. Good to see someone on this board from Elkhart County. My wife and I visit her father in Wakarusa quite frequently.

My father-in-law is still a radio nut and always has his three scanners in his home running continuously. He has yet to take the digital scanner plunge. Though he is interested in the Pro-2096. I told him that Elkhart County has a Safe-T tower and that the county agencies may someday go digital. In the mean time, he is fine with his analog scanners; however, he doesn't like the fact that he can't monitor the ISP district in Breman with his analog scanners. Anyway, welcome to the board.

yep good old rv captal of the world. without monaco waky would not be there. hahaha

Anyway the tower is unknown about the digital talkgroups for elkhart co or analog. there are i think 12-16 talkgroups on this radio. Even nappannee has a talk group listed for this on his radio. Be really interesting to find out since the city of ELKHART. let their 800 frequencies expire cause they did not build a system. OOPS!!! Then they wander why people can't talk to people up here. "150 YEARS OF TRADITION UNIMPEEDED BY PROGRESS". Anyway thanks for the reply if you or anybody else has some clue drop me a message. Have a good day

If Elkhart County has done what Marshall County has, they've purchased the radios under DHS grant for interoperability. Marshall County has received 40 or so radios for use on SAFE-T as well, with their own TG's. Each rural department (Argos, Bourbon, Bremen, Culver, etc.) has received 2 radios, with fire and EMS receiving one each. Local TG's for police, fire, and EMS as well as Statewide and Region B Mutual Aid TG's are loaded as well. From what I've heard they're for major incidents but until a dedicated SOP comes out you never know what you'll hear.
