Elko Area TRS

Hey Joe, hows it goin?!
I tried to monitor the NSRS a few times in Elko, but after 10 of 15 minutes of listening to nothing I got bored and moved on to something else to listen to like the .21
I know that it works, because last week I heard two radio techs on 06-141 (0881 decimal) talking as they were driving somewhere. They were giving out mile markers like 310, and it took a minute or two to figure out they were in Elko County on I-80. They were going to meet up at the Halleck/Ruby Valley exit, and then they stoped talking, and I had to go to work, but you can imagine my surprise to hear guys in Elko all the way down here in Vegas :!: . Also on Monday I heard Joe in Ely talking to some of the other techs around the state. That was also a very exciting one to monitor, because of a freindly voice!
I don't know what kind of a radio you are using, but you might put it into monitor mode and park it on the control channel just to see if there is any traffic on the system. If you have a uniden radio, make sure you set it to recieve i-calls; sometimes if I don't hear any conventional traffic there will still be users making i-calls. Most of the users I hear in Vegas have their own radio systems in Elko. For example, I hear mostly NDOT traffic and Nevada Power traffic. NDOT has their own system on 151.0100 in Elko. Sierra Pacific seems to have at least 1 TG listed in the database, but I would bet they use either their own VHF system, or lease time off of Sierra Electronics systems until NSRS is going full bore I never really listened to any utilities in Elko, so I have no idea what they use. NHP has been doing a little testing on the NSRS here, but until they go on full time, I doubt the rest of the State will follow. 962 could possibly be a Sierra Pacific TG (914 is the Sierra Pacific TG in the Data base). I would say right now probably 75% of what I hear is from NV Power I have listed over 20 TGs associated with NV Power.

Yea i've heard traffic on the Elko West system, but it seems that it's still in the "beta test stage" because i only hear parts of the conversation. I end up hearing NDOT in Elko, and then it goes to another talkgroup and i hear Reno NHP running traffic on Mccarran. I don't see how they can pipe in Reno NHP to Elko when the system only has 3 frequencies because you have to figure that Reno NHP talks so much, that they need one reserved for them.
No luck on the Elko East trunked system and last time i checked, the Oasis system along with all of the Wendover systems were producing nothing.

It has all of the NHP stuff for the elko area. Everything that says "confirmed" in red letters i put in my radio and the only one that i did not hear anything on was the one that was like 20 miles southwest of Winnemucca. This is a great site for NHP rural VHF and i'm surprized that these frequencies aren't in a section on radioreference
