If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Were can I find an technical explanation of emission types like A1D, A2B, A2D, A3E, F2B, F1D, F2D, F3E, G3E? I tried searching the FCC site for rule 95.631 but it still did not explain what each designation means.

I know I've seen this info before but I can't find it for anything now on the FCC site.

Anyone help here?

Thanks

Thanks Craig,

That was what I had found before as it is a tad easier to read then what I did find tonight in the part 95 rules. I now have it bookmarked:)

I was really asking for MURS use as I still have an active license and several radios on 154.6 that will not be good after the narrowbanding rule take effect in 2013. The radios are now used on a licensed repeater plus we use the 154.6 channel from time to time for special functions. I do have new radios with narrow bandwidth capability for when I swap out the repeater radios but that will not happen for a few more months. I'd like to keep the old wide bandwidth radios for MURS use only but I'm still not clear if the narrow bandwidth rule will also apply to the two MURS frequencies that allow 20 kHz bandwidth currently. My old 154.6 license will be expiring in a few months which is also the time I plan on upgrading the repeater radios for narrow band.

Thanks Again!

To my knowledge the narrowbanding requirements only apply to Part 90. Not to MURS or GMRS as they are under Part 95, however there is a proposal to change that in the case of GMRS.

MURS is currently required to be narrowband on the 151.82, 151.88, and 151.94 MURS freqs.
The bandwidth on the 154.57 and 154.60 MURS freqs can be EITHER "wide" or "narrow".

You're OK for now, unless the Part 95 re-write removes "wide" bandwidth from the 154MHz MURS freqs.

Good luck.

Much of MURS was Narrowbanded when it was Created. The older [Dot/Stars etc] were eliminated.

Thanks for that. That is exactly how I interpreted it as well.
Our license was for 154.60 and 154.57 but we needed a repeater so that pretty much ended the use of those which became MURS channels. I have a bunch of old Motorola portables but I'm not sure all can meet the 2 watt power limit. I think the GP300's can be set down to 2 or 1 watt and those are the ones I'd like to keep around as I still have NIB batteries for them:cool:
Then I have a bunch of old HT750's but I never had the need to program them so I don't know if they can be set to 2 watts or less.

Thanks everyone for all the info.
