The City of Seattle’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Telecommunications Systems Installer in the Communications Technologies Division. The Department of Information Technology provides technology leadership for the City enterprise, developing common standards, architectures, and business solutions to deliver City services more efficiently and effectively. DoIT is responsible for Citywide technology governance, strategic planning and policy development, and programs that promote technology literacy and public access to government information. The department manages the City’s technology infrastructure which includes the City’s data center, communications networks, and end user support and customer services activities.

Position Duties:
Perform installation, testing and maintenance of City-owned radio, telephone, microcomputer and other vehicle mounted telecommunications systems which impact government and public safety operations for external and internal customers. Exercise considerable independent judgment in diagnosing and resolving complex or non-routine technical problems of vehicle installations. Conduct operational testing and equipment adjustments to meet system specifications. Perform software and hardware installations and troubleshooting, including resolution of technical problems in field locations. Perform precision toolwork as required. Perform related telecommunications administrative duties; maintain requisite service, wire and equipment assignment records and prepare routine status reports. Communicate effectively concerning technical installation matters. Perform related telecommunication duties commensurate with classification level.
Required Qualifications:
One year of experience in installation, maintenance, testing and repair of vehicle mounted radio, electronic telephone, microcomputer or other telecommunications systems in a large scale operation. Completion of technical level coursework in electronics, telecommunications, or data communications or additional field experience. Experience with tools, materials and work procedures used in installation, operations, maintenance and servicing of telephone, radio, microcomputer or other telecommunications systems and equipment. Experience with electrical/electronic testing equipment methodology to troubleshoot various vehicle mounted radio, telephone, microcomputer or other telecommunications systems equipment. Experience troubleshooting, locating, identifying and diagnosing malfunctions in wiring and making repairs. Working knowledge of Windows applications, electronic messaging, and various industry standard software. Washington State Driver’s license. Pre-employment physical required. Employment contingent upon successful completion of comprehensive criminal background investigation.
