• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

As I'm waiting later today delivery on a G4, I've already downloaded PPS vs 3.14.15, and, already prepared a "code-plug" for it.

Previously, I've read here on the forums, that, there has been a FW update to deal with encrypted talk groups.

I see no such thing in this PPS.

Question is, where would I find this feature on the PPS, or, is it something I would come across, once I connect my new G4 to this version of the PPS?

I've chosen a random version model so maybe, is this the reason why I don't see this on PPS?

FWIW, I've chosen a G4XXX model, from the drop down, taking care not to choose a DMR model, as this was not the model ordered, although, I don't think this has anything to do with that feature.

It's set per knob position (tab D5) - look for "Receiving Encrypted Voice Messages".

Right, but, when you read the parameter description, it does not say it will mute encrypted traffic coming across in a talkgroup?

It will ignore the transmission...

  • When receiving an encrypted message:
    1.Enable:
1a. If you do not have the encryption key, Pager will play unrecognizable data tones.
1b. If you have the encryption key, Pager will use the key to decrypt the voice and play the voice.
1c. If the encryption key is wrong, Pager will play unrecognizable data tones.
2.Disable(Default): Pager will ignore the received voice message
This setting is only related to encrypted messages. Regardless of the setting, Pager will play the received unencrypted voice messages.

The english translation isn't great. Basically; if that option is enabled, it will attempt to play encrypted traffic, and if you don't have the right key to decrypt it, you will just hear garbled noises, but if you don't have that option enabled, it will not attempt to play encrypted traffic at all.

Yeah, I knew there had to be something lost in translation, the wording isn't too clear. Thanks to KevinC for pointing it out to me.
