Can you give more details? Exactly what type of transmission were you monitoring? Police, Fire, Public Works? As far as I know all police units are encryption enabled with the possible exception of parking enforcement. Last year estimates were being assembled for adding encryption capabilities to Fire/EMS radios; it is my understanding that funding was approved. This may be the beginning of that implementation.

I have read before that each station has there own frequency number for there use. Are these frequencies being encrypt only or is DE going to encrypt there entire system? Why does the state want to do this?

My thoughts are that eventually the hole state will be encripted. My hope is some day they will have a scanner that will be able to monitor encripted transmissions. I go to CT a lot and they also are doing more and more of that. :(

I agree most of the fire/ems/police radios on the Eastern Shore now have the Delaware system programmed into them. We have not heard of any memorandums concerning reprogramming of our radios due to encryption.

Hello,

Upstate uses encryption selectively, even on Dispatches. Most of the time, users are asked to go to Secure. As long as Dispatch remains in the clear, we will have something.

Another interesting point - and this I got from third hand parties - is that the use of encryption is a battery hog. Moto (or whoever is selling the handhelds to the state) is probably rubbing their hands in glee :D

Hello,

There was a time when very little ENC was used. Unfortunately for the State, Uniden introduced the BC250D. Two months after its' release, the State encrypted a large portion of PS TG's, FOREVER. In fairness to the State, it is Media and hobbyist friendly.

Some Dept's didn't have it. They have it now. And use it. Delaware has used Digital since the late 1990's. It took years before the scanner manufacturers caught up. Now, it's the States turn. The State is planning to spend 57 Million over 3 years on the system.

Anytime the State wants to add ENC to the Fireboard, they have spent too much money. There are changes ahead. And it's not scanner friendly.

Hello,

At this point the only ones in Sussex county getting encryption should be the local pd's. To save money when they had to buy all their radios all of the local pd's bought them without the encryption modules. The State Police Chiefs Council aquired a Homeland Security grant to purchase the encryption modules for them. They were just recieved and distributed last week. If you hear FD's going to the radio shop it more than likely is for programming. The state radio shop has been doing a bit of cleaning up in the FD's radios code plugs. I have heard that they were tossing around the idea of encrypting the EMS/Hospital talk groups but haven't heard anything definate on that yet.

Dover PD now ENCRYPTED

Hello,

Seems the madness has begun. Since Friday, May 20, Dover PD has been 100% Encrypted. Confirmed with Trunker. So far, it's the only Dept that has Encrypted Dispatch. Wonder who is next? :?:

Hello All,
I'll be at the beaches all weekend and will check the locals while waiting for a fish to bite!

Will report anything not mentioned in the dB.

de784,

Sometimes the units simply forget to de-select encryption....most likely is what happened. I would truly be surprised if the DSP "COMMAND" TGs go encrypted, since the agency has multiple, alternative encrypted TGs to use for sensitive info and they have the apparent intention of continuing to simulcast the 3 "COMMAND" TGs on the web.

I'm curious as to the update on encryption of Dover PD Dispatch......is it ongoing?

Hi Group,
Spent that last 2 days in Dewey Beach and here's a complied list of TG's that use encryption on a semi regular basis but not full time:

13168 Oceanview
13744 Milton
13680 South Bethany
20656 Rehoboth PD1
20688 Rehoboth PD2

I never heard a clear (unencrypted) transmission on the following:

(Kent)
12880 Dover PD dispatch
19920 Dover PD TAC1

(Sussex)
13776 Bridgeville

I did monitor encryption on most local TG's at one time or another so I believe everyone is upgraded.

DSP used Enc on COmmand sparingly like up north.

Weekly updates to follow if I notice any changes while I'm there.

Also, 867.0875 was hanging all weekend on the Rt 1 tower just north of Reho.

I did not monitor any conventional PD comms on the old channels except for the Dewey seasonal police on 155.010M

Dave
