So, I've been out of the loop for a while. I live in Iowa and don't get to SD as much as I used to. It used to be that I could hear some SD traffic from my home (32 SE of Sioux Falls), but I couldn't hear everything. It seems when the system was upgraded, I got less signal as well. Now that Sioux Falls PD/FD and Minnehaha SO are 100% encrypted, I don't hear any of that, of course. But I'm just wondering if there's anything left on the SD system (monitoring from my location) to even pick up? I don't get the SD towers 100 percent, so I don't know what I am missing. I've noticed when there's traffic on Minnehaha Co fire (VHF analog, 154.415) I do sometimes see the digital talkgroup pop up, but there's never any audio. I'm guessing that's because it's encrypted on the SD TRS side. Do all agencies in SE SD encrypt now? For instance, would it be possible for me to pick up Lincoln SO or Canton PD? How about the SDHP? Do they ALL encrypt now? Obviously anything that's simulcasted on old VHF analog frequencies I can hear there, like fire and ems pages outside of Sioux Falls, etc. But since I didn't always get the traffic anyway (due to distance and antenna limitations) I'm not sure if it's just that or if there really is very little to listen to anymore on the SD TRS system . . .
