End of an era, Racom shutting down the network today

Just looked up RACOM in the database. What an interesting system it was. I've never seen private businesses on a public system like that!

I should've updated my post. Ended up reading up on RACOM after that. That's even more intriguing! I guess the only comparable system is the Bell Fleetnet up in Canada. Learned something new!

If RACOM is dead in the water, why is it still listed in the Sentinel drop down menu at the county level for Fremont, Pottawattamie, Monona, & Woodbury counties?

Maybe they still have some business customers? The closed their Sioux City office maybe 10-15 years ago and once local public safety left I stopped listening to the system.

The multi-state RACOM system was disbanded, but RACOM is still in business. They moved on to build the SARA system and some local systems for customers. They still do quite a bit of commercial and public safety business. Emergency Response Systems
