The ENF has been fairly busy with radio traffic this week. I have heard them "experimenting" with a Roger Beep on their dispatch channel. Don't know why they would want to do this. It is not on today.
On Thursday, I heard lots of short key-ups on their LE freq. A strong signal on the input, so pretty sure it was them. No PL noted. Never any ID or voice heard. Anyone know anything?

Shortly after I posted this, the Roger Beep started again.
Also, noted a new freq of 172.4 for their Service Net.
It's a couple of bars lighter than 164.125

ENF Roger Tone

Hi Norm and everyone else.

The Tone was added to the Bald Mountain repeater because the site lost its P.G. & E. power supply and it's running on back-up. Once the site regains normal electrical power the tone will go away. This tone may be installed on some of our other sites as well to clue us in on the electrical conditions at the various sites on the ENF.

As far as the Law Enforcement Frequency we still have the frequency but not used much here anymore except during special operations. Our LE may also use it in a simplex form to communicate with each other when they area close to each other.

Hi Scot, long time. Thanks for the info, appreciated. I have never heard this on any other Forest before.
Was wondering what its purpose was. BTW, would you have any info on the MNF tones 10-12?
Not listed anywhere that I could find.

Nope, thanks anyway, but was looking for Repeater locations. They seem to be associated only with
the LE channel. I was wondering if they did not duplicate other tone's locations.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Daniels repeaters are specifically configured to give that "beep" tone in certain situations. I don't really know the details, or the exact reason, but I know that I've heard a similar thing on the Klamath.

Hello there Norman. Again, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 172.400 the Service Net frequency for the Tahoe NF?

It's Service Net for several nearby forests, but the answer to your question is yes. I don't think it's ENF he's hearing.

Probably when running on Battery or Solar

Re 172.4 for the TNF, that may be true, but I'm not hearing that. When the ENF Svce Net keys up, I hear 164.125, 172.4, and 164.825 all at the same time with the same transmission.

That's interesting. While we are talking about R5 Service nets, maybe someone could help me clarify something about Northern California. There seems to be some ambiguity, regarding some of the Service Nets. One source states that the new Service Net for the Six Rivers NF is 169.950,which is the same as the Lassen NF Admin Net, unless that has been changed as well. And what are the new Service Net frequencies for the Lassen and Modoc NF's? So are they staggering the Service Nets every other Forest? Anyway, these are my thoughts on this. I forgot to mention that another source states that the new Six Rivers NF Service Net is supposed to be 171.500.

Theres a document floating around with the official changes. That's what I've been using to update the DB so as far as I know everything is accurate.

A list I found from April on a .gov site had some obvious errors, so even some of the Official lists we find are subject to typos's and change

But... the above said, here is what I have read

Old SRF
168.7250 R / 170.1250 Forest (Tones 1-14)
168.1250 R / 170.4750 Admin (Tones 1-9, 12-14)

New SRF
172.3750 R / 164.1750 Forest (Tones 1-14)
170.4750 R / 165.7500 Admin (Tones 1-9, 12-14)

Also keep in mind that until actually implemented, frequency assignments are still subject to change. Changes are generally due to Interference, where coverage is impacted

This has been seen on the UHF for some Fed Agencies, where they need to apply for a Waiver to use a non +9 Mhz off-set

The ENF has not officially changed the Service Net yet, because one of the new frequencies will be coming from the ENF Forest Net. The change for both frequency pairs will happen in 2017, not sure when Spring or Fall.
