Looking for some entry level portables in vhf cheap don't care about anything fancy just a no display unit. Also any overseas manufactures doing anything with nxdn yet?

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Alinco has been selling a UHF non-trunking NXDN radio for a while now. 6.25KHz only.
Kind of limits the market a bit, so not sure how they are selling.
Maybe Alinco shouldn't be considered an "overseas" company, but they certainly are not one of the big players in the commercial market.
If you look over at NXDN Forum Website you can find a list of the companies that are working with NXDN, Alinco, GME (Australia) and a Russian company.
Other than Alinco, I'm unable to find any NXDN radios listed on their websites.

Your cost effective solution would be the Baofeng BF-UV6. You will need the programming cable and the free software download to program them, but you will have VHF you want along with the UHF option if you want it.
The other low cost solution would be a Baofeng UV-5R that you can manually program without needing the cable of software - although you can do it that way too.
Look up both of them on the manufacturers website or ebay to get a comparison. I have both and they serve the purpose. Without any more information as to your intended use, I can't really suggest one over the other.
