This morning while driving to work in the Troy, NY, area, I heard a conversation between a base station that I think identified as "Burlington" with a train that was within simplex range of my car. The frequency was 160.590, which I don't find listed for any of the currently operating railroads in the region. It was an old Delaware and Hudson frequency according to a couple of websites, but it's not listed as being used by CP Rail, which now operates the D&H tracks.

Mainline CPRR traffic is on 161.100 and their only local yard (Kenwood) is on 160.530. This is the first time I've heard anything on 160.590. The dispatchers who normally bring up the remotes in Watervliet and Ballston Spa on the mainline channel are in Otsego, NY, as far as I know. Burlington, VT, would be a logical location for a CPRR dispatcher (moreso than for any of the other lines operating around here).

After the conversation ended, there was a Morse code transmission of "CSI."

Might have been a PBX transmission. Those transmissions generally end with a morse code call sign id or some other identifier.

I suppose that's a possiblity. I only heard the middle and end of the conversation, so I don't know if there was a dial tone or any DTMF pulses sent by the train. I'll be keeping an ear on this frequency now.

I realize I mistyped something in the original posting and I can't edit it now. The CPRR dispatchers are in Oneonta, NY, not Otsego.
