OK, I've got EOT.mon running all morning from home which is about 6 miles from the tracks and no decodes. What would be the expected range from the EOTM's I'm trying to decode?

This is a BNSF track and I've got the frequency set on 161.115. Perhaps that is not the correct frequency for the BNSF.

Thanks!

Try 452.9375 and 457.9375. Those are the FRED frequencies. They usually have a 1 to 5 mile range. 161.115 only works on NS. UP, BNSF, and everybody else uses the other two.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, I found "noise" on 457.9375 but still no decodes. I plan on taking a radio hooked to a laptop "on location" and see what that yields. Or maybe I'm doing the whole setup wrong. I've got the headphone jack run into the line in on the computer, and press "start monitoring" on the EOT.mon. Or am I missing something here?

Thanks

That setup is not going to work. You need to get a clean data signal before
it reaches the audio stage in the radio. Thus you will need a discriminator tap on your receiver.

You can read about the discrimator here.

For EOT Monitor you don't need to mind the info about interface/slicer as that program uses the sound card in your computer.

Thanks Mark,

Right now, I'm just trying to use the EOT monitor, not the full ATCS because I don't have a discriminator tap.

Just curious where you got EOT Monitor... is it freeware somewhere?

Yes, as is ATCS Monitor. You will need to join the ATCSMon group
at Yahoo Groups. Once you join it is in the Files area.

You will need a discrimator tap on your receiver to run either one.
Unless you want to get an Icom PCR1000, many in the ATCSMon group
use it for its excellent reception of the 900 MHz band, plus it has the tap
already built in.

I was under the impression, based on a post in a previous thread that EOT.mon did NOT require the discriminator tap. So I guess that's why I'm not getting anything decoded. I guess I'll scrap the idea for now, since I don't have a radio with a tap.

Thanks

eot

if you dont want to use atcs with eotmon just put the files apigid32.dll and bch6345.dll files from atcs into a folder with eotmon.exe works great here.that way you dont need atcs at all.I love this program.atcs is great also but not near my house.I can get the signal but not for the tracks near the house.

discriminator tap

Hi all,

It's not all that hard to tap the discriminator output if you have a bit of tech skill or know someone who has. First you need the manual for the receiver, some user manuals have them, if not the shop manual has along with other much needed material. Often the info can be found on the web, Google it. ModsDK is a good place to start, then you can post a question on one or more Amateur Radio forums. Hams are pretty good sources of info and love to "elmer" (teach) interested parties. Don't be surprised if one or more push you to get a ham license.
