Just purchased a new rack to house all of my primary monitoring gear. Just got a few things in the rack and wanted to show a few pics. I am in the process of changing my primary receiver after going through a Icom R7000 then the Icom R8500 and most recently a AR-5000. Now they all have been sold to continue my pursuit of a URC-110, UR101 or a LST-5. All of the gear is bolted in the rack. Makes for a solid feel. Here is a list of whats in there:

Racal RA6790/GM HF receiver
Pro-2045-#1-UHF ARTCC
Pro-2045-#2-VHF air/138-144Megs
BC898t-UHF air
BC895xlt-UHF air
Lark 225-400Mhz tunable bandpass filter
Angle Linear 225-400Mhz Phempt high level preamp
Scientific Atlantic 4 port wideband RF amp
Motorola PTPE 101 UHF 225-400Mhz Preamp (for the expected URC or LST5)
Motorola PTPC-100 UHF preamp system (for the expected URC or LST5)
The rack is a Middle Atlantic model.

Will post pics soon after I had the new receivers.

Love the setup! I'm in the process of racking all of the shack gear myself.
In your opinion, how does the Racal stack up against the AR-5000? Currently using an R-390A and an RX-320 along with the TS2000X for HF but have always had my eye on a 6790

Thanks,

As far as the comparison of the AR5000 on HF compared to the 6790, The 6790 has the lead. The audio from the 6790 is amazing. The 6790 is nice and quiet too, handles the noise very well. I haven't used a better HF receiver yet.

Very Nice
Im considering putting all my radio stuff in a rack mount setup as well
were did you get the shelf that the 898's are sitting on, did you get that separately or did it come with the rack?
If you got it separately, let me know where you got it, im looking for one that wont cost me an arm and a leg

Nice!!!

Nice setup. I have a thing for racks and think that nearly everything looks better in one. However, yours is particularly clean and neat with lots of room for expansion. Good job.

19 inch racks are great!

I am the process of redoing my shack. I aquired a used recording studio desk with twin racks. It makes things so much easier. Great job so far.

Added a Panamax M4300-PM power conditioner to the rack that has some nice rack lights on it. Make it nice to see all the equipment in low light. The lights can be set at three different levels of brightness. The unit also has line voltage displayed digitally on the front. Its a nice power conditioner and surge for the money.

Racks 'n' RACAL!!

Nice!

19" racking is my personal favourite for mounting equipment and you have done a great job with your gear.

Looked at a 6790 some time ago- along with the VHF/UHF version. The difficulty of getting such a beast serviced scared me off. No doubt such a radio would need minimal attention, but I am a heck of a long way from RACAL in the UK!

How does your Yupiteru VT-225 perform? I have a soft spot for Yupiteru.

I also want a Signal R535.

Regards, Commscanaus

Thanks for the comments.

The Racal is a favorite of mine. I would love to find a VHF/UHF version of it. If the VHF/UHF version performs like the HF model it would for sure be a keeper.

The Yupiteru 225 is the most sensitive UHF air receiver that I have ever used. It works great in clean RF areas but in crowded RF areas it is prone to overload. Coupled with a bandpass filter it will out perform the icom 8500 in the 225-400Mhz band.

Lark?

I am actually using your rack setup as a guide for my own receivers - I am terrible at organizing them into a useful setup.
I just happened to come across the same Lark you are using.
Do you find it very useful so far? At $85 I figured even if it doesn't work it's worth having.

Also are you using the Middle Atlantic 19" Slim 5 series rack?

Appreciate your help!

Nice rack ! Is it always on your desk ? It's almost tall enough to attach some wheels for room-to-room listening. I like the night time shot too !
