Equiptment Question From Newb!!

I was looking to get into scanning usb for military frequencies and such. I have no idea on where to start as far as a unit goes. I was wondering if anyone could give me info on price and quality. I dont want to spend a fortune, as I dont know what to expect as far as reception and content. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Your cheapest and best route is probably the Sangean ATS-909. A little over $200, but good SSB performance for a portable. I had one a few years ago and was really impressed, but I found it too small to work with. My Sony 2010 is about the smallest I will use in a portable....
