Press 2,9, and Hold
when you turn your unit on...

WARnING THIS wiil ERASE ALL of the Memory

As copied from the PDF Manual PG 56:

Initializing the Scanner’s Memory
Important!
This deletes all preprogrammed data.
You cannot restore preprogrammed data that has
been deleted.
To initialize the scanner’s memory, turn off the
scanner. Then, press
2, 9, and Hold while turning it on.
You can change your mind when you next see:

Restore Preprogrammed List?
Press “E” for
Yes or “.” for No.

Thanks for getting back so quickly. The owners manual is way over my head.
I want to erase them and then assign channels to the new frequency#'s. and try just the red trunking #'s
I guess this is the right approach.
Thanks

Yes I downloaded the manual tonite. I got frustrated and gave up on the one that came with it.
I was hoping to assign my county in Maryland to channel 1 and another county to channel 2, ect.
Then I can scan the county that I am driving in.
Is thias a good approach?
Right now it is helter shelter and when it is not hitting my frequencys - it is scanning and hitting on new ones that I don't want to hear. Couldn't figure out how to stop this.
Thanks

IF you are in trunking mode set the Search
to just scan
That way it ONLY Scans what you have programmed
I only use taht feature though when I am scannin a SUPER LARGE LOL
System like the Alameda TRS in CAli...
ANd Yes Frequently I find IDs that are "unlisted: that belong to Narcs,Amtrak PD etc,

Also Lock the Systems you DONT want to hear
and Above all PRACTICE WITH THE UASD
It how you learn as the Mnaual is VERY Basic...

PRinting Costs

There are no channels in the '396 as such. Create a system. Program in the frequencies for your county. Assign that system a System Quick Key. Create another system for the other county. Program in all of the frequencies you want for that county. Assign that county a different System Quick Key. This way, you can turn on or off each county whenever you want, or scan both of them at the same time. Plan it out and set it up right, and it's very flexable!

That is the BEST way to program the scanner. I won't even try to do it from the keypad.
