Error connecting from Win96

Trying to login to RR from Win96, I've gotten a dialog with the following message, and the dialog says I should post it to the forums to get it fixed. Here it is:

There has been changes made, update your software with the new version and you will be good to go.

Updated Win96 from v1.57 to 1.66 (current). To do this, I needed to install Microsoft .NET, which I'd avoided. Now RR works fine.
