I've been finding SO many errors on the RR page for Essex County/Windsor and trying to correct them. I have long heard other scanner users in Windsor say the page is full of errors, yet they do nothing to fix it. So many other people think we are to blame for the city going digital as well. I think it was just like anything else though, a matter of time and technology moving ahead. Most PD are encrypted north of here as well, not just us.
I don't know why this area is so dead on RR. I don't understand why so many errors also. Maybe someone is trying to lead people astray from listening? I really don't have any answers. Other cities are similar though. I could look at it differently and say that anyone who is into scanning, should go out and find the truth since that is what we got into scanning for isn't it?
With yesterday's outage though at Amazon which brought down RR for a while, I was surprised to see how many people were upset because they could no longer listen to scanners streaming at RR. I know all of those people aren't actively searching out new frequencies. It takes time though and maybe people are too busy these days?
Being into ham radio, I know what we say is open for all to hear. Anyone else out there as a business or other should know the same unless they buy into encryption or some other system to prevent it. Just because it is listed on RR though doesn't mean they will do that. I'm sure they know when they buy the transceiver that is it being broadcast in the open.
For all the scanner listeners out there though who know about the errors, you are doing a real disservice to the spirit of scanning. I hope more people can step up and fix errors when they see them. Or even submit something new!
